Andersen Racing's Krohn Has a Perfect Day
In F2000 Action Saturday at Mosport;
Gives Team Its Second Victory in Two Hours
BOWMANVILLE, Ontario, Canada, Aug. 23 - Less than two hours after Andersen
Racing's Peter Dempsey won Saturday's Star Mazda race at Mosport International
Raceway, Anders Krohn gave the Palmetto, Fla.-based team its second victory of
the day when he won Round 11 of the F2000 Championship Series presented by
Hoosier Racing Tire at that same 2.459-mile, 10-turn road course.
Krohn won the pole for the F2000 race with a new track record Saturday
morning. Connor Daly got around him at the start of the 18-lap race but then the
20-year-old driver from Sandnes, Norway retook the lead and went on to win by
1.768 seconds over Daly to further extend his point lead in the championship.
Krohn set the fastest lap of the race in the process for a perfect day with his
No. 9 Van Diemen, which is sponsored by Trallfa Industries, Colosseum Dental
and Kruse Smith. It was his sixth victory of the year.
Andersen Racing's Jonny Baker of Farnham Common, Buckinghamshire, England
started fourth and finished in the same position with his Van Diemen, which is
sponsored by Allied Interior Products. Andersen Racing is Van Diemen's factory
team in this series. Baker had a spirited battle with Kyle Marcelli during the
event, and with his solid run unofficially he's second in the championship
behind only his teammate.
Another Andersen Racing driver, Doug Prendeville of Whippany, N.J., started
11th and finished tenth with his car, which carries the colors of Allied
Building Products and Restart Communications.
The team's representative in the Masters Class, Scott Willard of Weston,
Conn., escaped injury in an accident around the halfway point with his BroadReach
Partners No. 14. At press time the team was working hard to repair it for the
second half of the F2000 doubleheader here tomorrow.
Andersen Racing is sponsored by Allied Building Products Corp. The team's Web
sites are at andersenracingteam.com and andersenracepark.com. More
information on the F2000 series is available at eformulacarnews.com and
f2000championshipseries.com.
Sunday's schedule shows qualifying at 8:30 a.m. followed by the second half
of the doubleheader, Round 12 of the 14-race season, at 12:05 p.m. Eastern time.
The season finale is another doubleheader at the brand-new New Jersey
Motorsports Park near Atlantic City Sept. 20-21.
Some post-race quotes follow:
Anders Krohn: "Conor Daly, who tested my car a couple weeks ago, got around
me at the start. I was behind him for about three laps, and then I got by him
in Turn 3.
"I had a lead of about 3 seconds, but then I caught up with the backmarkers
and that allowed Conor to catch up a little. I won by about 2 seconds. I set
the fastest race lap, so it couldn't be any better for the championship.
"The Andersen Racing team once again has done a fantastic job and gave me a
great car. They couldn't have done any better."
Jonny Baker: "I started fourth and finished fourth. It was a solid run. I
got a good start, but then Kyle Marcelli caught me and passed me. I dropped a
wheel off in Turn 3 and almost crashed trying to catch him, but then I did
repass him so that made me feel good.
"The Andersen Racing engineers and mechanics really did a good job. It's a
good finish for the championship, and I'm looking forward to trying to do even
better tomorrow."
Doug Prendeville: "I started 11th and finished tenth. I got tenth on the
start, and the rest of the race was pretty uneventful.
"It's good to finish. My car was fine; it was pretty neutral, and it got
better throughout the race."
